Mumbai: A court here on Monday extended the police custody of four persons, including two women, till October 28 for allegedly aiding the shooters in the Tiger Shroff firing case.

Kunal (21) and Sumit (19), residents of Haryana's Sonipat district, and Radha (23) and Babita (23), both from Uttar Pradesh, are among the 11 people arrested in the case.

Kunal, Sumit, Radha and Babita were produced before Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (Esplanade Court) S Khedkar on Monday, at the end of their previous remand.

Police sought an extension of their custody, stating that they had full knowledge of the conspiracy and needed to be confronted with the previously arrested co-accused. The data recovered from their phones also needed to be analysed, police told the court.

The investigation revealed that the accused were communicating through the Signal app, which they later destroyed. Data, including photos and videos of the weapons used in the crime, had been recovered from their phones, police said.

Custody was required to verify this data, police said, adding that voice samples of two of the accused were yet to be collected.

The defence, represented by Ajinkya Mirgal, contended that custody could not be granted on mechanical grounds.

The defence argued that the accused could be confronted with one another in jail with the court's permission and that police custody was therefore unnecessary. It sought their remand to judicial custody.

After hearing both sides, the court extended the police custody of the four accused till October 28.

According to police, the accused had travelled to Amritsar to procure the weapons, while the two women allegedly transported the firearms by train to Mumbai and handed them directly to the attackers.

At least two men fired five to six rounds at Shroff's car in Mumbai's Juhu area on October 18 before speeding away on a motorcycle, which was later found abandoned in Andheri. The actor escaped relatively unhurt, while his driver and a bystander were injured.

A case has been registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act, including charges of attempted murder.
